Reclaimed Oak & Walnut Mirror Table

This table was constructed as a technical showpiece. It features hand cut dovetail joinery throughout and all parts lock together mechanically. I made the most of my materials with this piece, nearly every board is symmetrically bookmatched. Even the inverted arch which holds the mirror is bookmatched; the mirror stand is itself mirrored.

I had a dwindling amount of reclaimed oak to use for this project, so to maximise my material I used bowtie inlays to help stabilise the natural cracks and checks in the wood. They aren’t all on display, but if you look carefully you can find them. There are over 60 bowtie inlays hidden around the table helping to hold it all together!

The design follows my philosphy of being modern with clean styling while maximising the use of traditional joinery.

The table is designed for use as a dressing table, but it has a strong presence and would stand out in almost any room. It could be a good hallway showpiece or lobby table. The Italian silver mirror is at a height suitable for use standing or sitting.
